When dreams and hopes, find ideas and creativity

Owning our Future
December 2-3, 2006

This weekend it really felt like we can own our future. Thanks to the wonderful array of talent, perseverence, generosity and plain old Bangladeshi punctuality, we were all reminded of who were are, and where we come from... maybe with a little stretch, I can also say 'where we belong'.

A handful of independent films, two wonderfully thought-provoking panels, stimulating Q&A, sobering photo-essays and a raucously brilliant cultural medley brought us back to our Bangladeshi roots. The idea this time was - what is Bangladesh's future? Does the future hold more aggression & atrocities or can it be dedicated to ambition and entrepreheurship? Can our small contributions from this remote location contribute anything to this vast ocean of challenges. Well, in the words of the poet, every little drop counts, so this weekend started us off on our way to envisioning that future where harmony and prosperity would be the hallmark of Bangladesh.

The first step in all this is to understand, and the next will be to organize. The dialogue and exchange to understand the problems of today have begun. We need to understand more, and learn from others how they have tackled their challenges. This event has helped us ... to find out how we can learn from practitioners and peers. To ask those who have the knowledge, and bridge the gap between those who do, and those who can.

Let us all put our thinking hats on, and keep Bangladesh in our thoughts. Even if it is a little step, let us make sure that it is taken.
